Frequently asked questions
Real questions, answered plainly. If yours is not here, the contact form goes straight to the person who runs this site.
How much does Travel Planner cost?
Searching is free: without any account you get three searches a day and three trip proposals per search. The subscription costs 9.99 € a month or 59.99 € a year, is sold only here on the website, and can be stopped at any time. There is no commission, no booking fee and no surcharge added to any price we show you.
What do I get without creating an account?
Everything that matters: three complete, fully costed trip proposals a day, with flights, accommodation, activities, transfers and working booking links. What you do not get is history — an anonymous search is not kept under your name — and you will see advertising, which is what pays for the free version.
What does the subscription add?
More searches a day, up to five proposals per search instead of three, your search history kept in your account so you can reopen a trip weeks later, and no advertising anywhere on the site. It is the same planner and the same data — more room, and quiet.
How is a trip's budget actually worked out?
By adding real components, not by scaling an average. Flights, accommodation and activities are priced from our booking partners for your actual dates. Daily spending — meals, local transport, incidentals — is scaled from published Eurostat and World Bank price-level indices for the country. The total is compared with the budget you set, and what does not fit is not proposed.
Why was a destination I like not proposed?
Almost always because it did not fit your budget for those dates, once the flights were priced. We would rather drop a destination than propose it with a worse hotel, fewer days or no activities just to make the figure work. Moving your dates, extending the period or raising the budget usually brings it back.
Can I travel with children?
Yes. Since version 2 you can declare children and their ages, which changes real things: fares and fare classes, occupancy and room configuration, and which activities are suitable or even allowed. An age is used for the costing, nothing else.
Can I travel with a pet?
Yes. You say whether the animal travels in the cabin or in the hold, and airlines that refuse animals on that route are removed from the results. Where the destination country has its own entry requirements for animals, you are warned — but check with the authorities and your vet, because those rules change and we do not pretend to be the reference.
How fresh are the prices?
They are collected from our partners at the time of the search, with short-lived caching to avoid hammering their systems. A fare is perishable: it can move between your search and your booking, especially on flights. The price that counts is the one on the seller's page when you pay — our link takes you straight to it.
Do you book the trip for me?
No, and we never handle your payment. Travel Planner builds and costs the trip, then hands you a booking link per component. You book with the airline, the hotel or the ticketing site, on their own pages and under their own terms. Nothing on this site is a travel agency contract.
Do you earn a commission on bookings?
On some of them, yes. Certain booking links are affiliate links: if you book through one, the seller pays GHIC a commission, at no extra cost to you — you pay the seller's own price. It changes neither which destinations are proposed nor the order they appear in, and no partner can pay to be ranked higher.
Which countries does the guide cover?
The destination guide covers 121 countries and 423 places, each with its own page and its own original illustration. A place only gets a page if we have measured climate data for it — a guide page with an empty climate section is filler, and we would rather have fewer pages than pad them.
How is the weather on a destination page calculated?
From measured station records published by Meteostat under CC BY 4.0 — 538 measurement points, read day by day over the last ten years. We count observed years, days with more than a millimetre of rain, and recorded temperatures. It is not a forecast. Where a gap has to be filled from a modelled series, the page says so.
Why do you not tell me whether I need a visa?
Because a wrong answer could cost you a flight. Entry rules depend on your nationality, your route, your length of stay and the day you travel, and they change without notice. We have chosen not to publish them rather than publish them approximately. Ask the consulate of your destination country, or your own foreign ministry.
What do you do with my personal data?
As little as possible. Your search criteria are stored encrypted at rest, on servers in Paris (Google Cloud, europe-west9), and are purged after a set retention period. We do not sell them and we do not share them with advertisers. The detail, including how to obtain or delete your data, is in the privacy policy.
What cookies do you use, and can I change my mind?
A sign-in session, your chosen language, an anonymous identifier used to count free searches, and — if you accept to support the sponsor whose link you followed — that sponsor's code. There are no advertising cookies: the ads we show set none, and there is no consent window to reopen. The cookies page lists every one of them with its lifetime.
Why do I see advertising?
Because it pays for the free version, alongside the subscription and affiliate commissions. The ads are ours: HTML cards we serve ourselves, pointing to travel partners — no advertising network, no third-party script, no cookie. Subscribers see none at all. We do not let an advertiser influence which destinations are proposed — the ranking is computed before any commercial consideration.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From your account page, the "Manage my subscription" link opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can cancel in one click, change plan or download your invoices. Cancelling stops the renewal; you keep your subscriber features until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Is there a mobile app?
The site is built to work as one: it installs on the home screen of an iPhone or an Android phone from the browser menu, and behaves like an app. Native iOS and Android versions are on the way; the subscription will stay sold on the website, so the app will simply sign you in.
