Where to go in July

July turns the winter map over twice rather than once. Europe dominates — Paris, Nice, Lisbon, Porto, Madeira — but so does East Africa, in its dry season while Europe is in its summer: Nairobi, Kigali, Bwindi and Kilimanjaro all reach 100. Budapest closes the twelve at 98.2. The places that carried December are simply absent. This is the month where the score is least sufficient on its own, because it counts degrees and rainy days while ignoring what really shapes a July trip: the number of people around you. Everything listed here is expensive and busy in Europe; nothing is on the African half. If your dates are fixed, read the table for comfort, then pick whatever absorbs a crowd best — a capital, a valley, a long shoreline, or a continent where July is not a holiday.

Three of them in detail
Paris — France
Paris stands at 27 °C in the afternoon and 15.8 °C at night, with six days above 1 mm and 39.6 mm: despite that count, July is the driest month on its calendar, proof that showers arrive and leave quickly. Orly is 14 km away, Charles de Gaulle 23 km.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — Uganda
Bwindi is living its driest month: 24.3 °C by day, 13.4 °C at night, two days above 1 mm and 10 mm of water, in a forest registering 193 rainy days a year. That contrast alone explains the gorilla season. Entry is through Kigali, 81 km away.
Madeira — Portugal
Madeira posts 25.4 °C and 19.9 °C with a single day above 1 mm, the driest month of its year. Funchal's airport is 14 km from town. The island's 655.4 mm a year fall almost entirely on the northern slopes and in the other seasons.
What to avoid this month
The monsoon owns the list: Goa and Kerala at 30 days above 1 mm each, Goa alone collecting 1,040.2 mm over the month. Addis Ababa joins them with 28 days and 289.2 mm, and Europe supplies the rest — Bled, 19 wet days; Reykjavik, 14 for a high of 13.9 °C.

How the score is calculated
One formula, applied identically to the hundred places, on measured station records:
score = 100 − 3·max(0, |tMax − 25| − 3) − 4·max(0, rainyDays1 − 6) − 2·max(0, 12 − tMin)A place is flagged as one to avoid when it records 14 rainy days or more in the month, an average high of 34 °C or more, or an average high of 8 °C or less. Only the five lowest-scoring flagged places are listed.
